A window to another world
After almost 10 years as an accent wall embellished merely with a pineapple stencil, it was time to go a bit bigger. Originally imagined as a quadratura, a flat painted mural with false perspective, the concept evolved into a combination of dimensional elements both real and simulated.
The mural and components were digitally illustrated to spec by Tony Canepa, which master sign-painter Andrew Paul, and his team from Run Rabbit Gilding, set to fabricating on layers of MDF board and hand-painting each component. These individual “signs” were hung on a hand-painted background which brings to life the illusion of both a flat illustration and a dimensional world.
The central island scene was created as a high-quality vinyl print to precisely translate the original illustration to the oversized format.
The porthole artwork was utilized again, creating continuity through the guest experience, as a dual-sided coaster featuring both day and night views of the island paradise, and as the opening and closing pages of the bar’s new menu.
